about TRACY BRITT

TracyBritt_PackPerspective

My interest in dog training began while growing up with a German Shepard fear biter named Frasier. Like most families, our family knew nothing about the breed, we just loved their regal look. We hired a dog trainer and I was completely impressed and mesmerized about his knowledge of dogs. I quickly realized how much we didn’t know about what our dog needed to overcome negative behaviors, and how much our behaviors molded his.

The trainer took our dog, which appeared to be a very aggressive animal and within minutes, turned him into what looked like an obedient show dog. After that, I was hooked and absolutely fascinated by dog psychology and communication and couldn’t stop learning about it.

Fast forward, through college and the Academy, I became a Massachusetts State Trooper working on highway patrol and the mounted unit. After having my children, I decided to take a leave of absence from being a State Trooper because I was being pulled towards dog training.

At that time, I had my dog Nick, with whom I trained myself. People would see how well-behaved he was and they began asking me to train their dog. My hobby turned into a passion and career so much so that I retired from the Massachusetts State Police.

With that, in 2000, I decided to take it to the next level and apprenticed under Mike Pinksten from Olympia Kennels in Chester, New Hampshire, the premier Schutzhund teacher decoy in New England. Olympiakennels.com. The main focus during this training was household obedience and touched on the Schutzhund bite work.

After working with thousands of dogs to date, time and experience with so many different breeds, behaviors, and issues has proven to be my best teacher. There’s not one behavior that I haven’t worked with successfully. It is safe to say, that the single most important part of the training process is actually teaching the owners and family to follow-through with the training and structure that I recommend to them. Without consistent follow-through dogs, much like humans, will recoil quickly to bad behaviors.

Satisfied Customers

I have a 6 month old puppy with anxiety issues and who was also in need of training. Tracy took my dog into her home and cared for her and worked with her on a daily basis. I received constant updates and continue to receive advice. After three weeks of working with her my dog was changed and for the better. Her anxiety level is almost unrecognizable. I am beyond grateful for Tracy’s training and her patience and professionalism. I highly recommend Tracy for any of your pup’s needs.
— Christine - Marshfield
We boarded our Beagle with Tracy on a regular basis and I always knew Sinker was safe, well cared for, socialized and exercised. Tracy can manage several dogs at a time and she truly loves caring for her charges. Her property is well maintained, with a large, clean, fenced in yard with plenty of activities and space for all types of dogs to get fresh air and playtime. Our Beagle always came back from Tracy’s not only well behaved, but happy and healthy.

When our Beagle got sick Tracy went above and beyond the call of duty to take her to her chemo appointments when I couldn’t, consult with the vets and counsel me with advice based on her extensive knowledge of dog health and well being.

Our experience with Tracy in our dog’s life was nothing short of exemplary. We all love her and totally trust her. I could not recommend her more highly.

Tracy has an amazing natural ability to read dogs and speak their language... she helped me so much in getting my sweet but very nervous rescue on the road to being a social pup!
— Michele C. - Marshfield Ma
Tracy’s wealth of knowledge and the way in which she explained the psychology behind what our dog needed, vs. what we thought it needed, worked wonders. Without knowing it, we were actually doing him more harm than good. Tracy’s knowledge is well worth the investment and my husband and I highly recommend both her training and boarding services. Don’t think twice!
— Darcey and David - Halifax
Tracy’s consultations and training have been extremely valuable to us at the Marshfield Animal Shelter. About half of the dogs coming through the shelter have some type of behavioral or adjustment problems. Some of the issues can be rather extreme. Tracy is consulted on all the extreme cases for direction on training methods. In some cases these dogs stay at her home for immersion in her training methods. Without her expertise many of those dogs would not be adoptable. She always gets it right. There are a lot of dogs in forever homes because of Tracy’s skill, patience and compassion.
